What is the difference between an open and a closed cooling tower?

In an open cooling tower the circulating water is cooled directly by air as it falls through the fill. In a closed cooling tower the process fluid flows inside a sealed coil and is cooled by spray water and air on the outside, so the fluid never contacts the atmosphere. Open towers have the lowest first cost; closed towers protect the process loop and reduce water treatment.

?

When should I choose a closed cooling tower?

Choose a closed cooling tower when the process fluid must stay clean, when the water is dirty or corrosive, or when you want to protect pumps and heat exchangers. It is also suited to high-temperature fluids and to sites where the spray can be stopped in cold weather to save water.

?

What information do you need to quote?

Flow rate or cooling capacity, inlet / outlet temperature, design wet-bulb temperature, water quality, material, voltage, quantity.

?

What materials are available?

Open cooling towers use corrosion-resistant FRP casings. Closed cooling towers use galvanized steel casings with a heavy zinc coating, or 304 / 316 stainless steel on request. Coils are available in 304 or 316 stainless steel.

?

What is the difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel coils?

Both are austenitic stainless steels. 316 contains molybdenum, which gives better resistance to chlorides and pitting, so it is usually chosen for coastal, brackish or aggressive water. 304 is a common choice for general duty. We can advise on the better option for your water quality.

?

How does a closed cooling tower save water?

The coil keeps the process fluid sealed, and the spray water can be stopped when the outside air is cool enough. Wet-dry models combine a dry section and a wet section to reduce water use further.

?

What is an evaporative condenser used for?

An evaporative condenser combines a condenser coil and a cooling tower in one unit. Refrigerant condenses inside the coil while spray water evaporates on the outside. It is used in refrigeration systems such as cold storage and food processing.

?

When is an air cooler a good choice?

An air cooler (air cooled heat exchanger) cools process fluid with ambient air and uses no cooling water. It is common in refineries, chemical, metallurgy and power plants, and where water is scarce or expensive.

?

Can the equipment be customized?

Yes. Explosion-proof design, variable frequency control, automation, circulating water tank, dual pump design, winter antifreeze, multi-coil design and cleanable tube box design are available.

?

Do you provide installation and after-sales service?

Yes. Huake covers design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and after-sales service, and also supports OEM and custom engineering.

?

How do I get a quotation?

Send your design conditions through the Get a Quote form, or contact Manager Liu at 183-6466-8785 or 0536-4088888. An engineer will reply with a recommended model and quotation.
